Alien: Covenant $36M
I’m a bit surprised that Alien only took in $36M. I thought it was going to make about $50-55M. Nonetheless it’s a $100M project, which makes you think that maybe Alien is done. It’ll need a huge overseas take to warrant a sequel. Personally I loved Alien: Covenant. The direction by Ridley Scott was stellar visually as usual. That alone should get you in the door.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 $35M
As for Guardians this is great news. To come within one million of a Summer tentpole in its first week, shows Marvel’s power at the box office. Guardians is one of those movies you love watching. I was hoping there was another hour after it ended. Performances are stellar, and James Gunn crushed it behind the camera.

Everything, Everything $12M
When I saw the trailers for this film, it screamed Fault in our Stars. That’s not a bad thing, but it’s only been a couple of years from that massive hit. That’s probably why Everything, Everything didn’t pull in $25-30M. I’m pretty into the book to movie adaptations, up until the trailer dropped I had no idea this book existed.
Snatched wasn’t anything special. It wasn’t awful by any means, but you can’t say anything about it that will convince you to see it. Amy Schumer is a helluva performer, but this film wasn’t the vehicle to showcase that in her follow up to Trainwreck.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul $7.2M
This franchise booted the entire original cast, and it didn’t make one bit of difference. You’ll still get that bathroom humor, and nothing worthwhile.
