Regarded as two of the worst films of this young year, xXx: Return of Xander Cage and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter were released on bluray this week. If you’re a fan of these franchises, it’s a good release week for you, if not then you’re probably sitting this one out.
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter
There’s nothing really here as far as features go. Standard stuff for the most part. Mila Jovovich and Paul W.S. Anderson talk about how much they love the franchise. You’d think for “The Final Chapter” they’d really delve deep into the franchise but there’s not much here. As for the film itself, I had fun watching it, but that doesn’t really make it any good. I enjoy these movies as a whole, but they aren’t known as great movies. Mindless action is the best way too describe it. Jovovich is as good as she’s been in the other installments. I really don’t think you need to waste your time buying this or seeing it, unless of course you’re a completist like I am, or you’re a massive fan of the franchise.
xXx: Return of Xander Cage
If I remember correctly, this film did horrible at the box office domestically. Just 13% of its $350M came here in the U.S. Usually that type of foreign haul will warrant a sequel, but I think it’s safe to say we’re done with Xander Cage. Vin Diesel plays himself for the most part, and it’s good to see him in something other than Fast. If The Rock wasn’t so prominent in the Fast Franchise, and you watched these films back to back you’d think they were sequels of each other. One obviously worse than the other but you understand my sentiment. Nothing here as far as features go.
Just and FYI, there’s a Mummy collection steelbook that dropped this week. All three Brendan Fraser Mummys plus The Scorpion King. It’s only $20, so if you wanna get caught up on those films before you see the Tom Cruise reboot, there’s good value here.
