Three friends come across the origins of The Bye Bye Man, the cause of all the horrific acts in their lives.
So, people tend to describe January as the worst month of the “movie season”. With the wide release of Patriots Day, I was starting to doubt that this January would be that bad. Boy was I wrong.
The Bye Bye Man has to be one of the worst experiences I’ve had at the movies. For every poorly written line of dialogue, there’s a pointless jump scare. This film is every pointless, lifeless, bland, and generic horror release. Every scare is calculated and predictable. Nothing here catches you off guard in the slightest.
I have to take time to talk about the acting here, which is poor to say the least. These are the typical cheap teenage type actors that cost the studio nothing. They got what they paid for. No emotion, lifeless performances. The lead actor has to show how crazy he’s become because of the Bye Bye Man. He opens his eyes as wide as he can, and leaving his mouth completely open. That’s it. Cringe worthy for sure.
If you see the Bye Bye Man, let me apologize to you on behalf of the studio. This shouldn’t have been released in theaters. How anyone making any money watched this and thought it was worth putting out truly baffles me.
