Max Vatan (Brad Pitt) is sent on a mission to Casablanca to assassinate a German Ambassador. He’s under cover with fellow agent Marianne Beausejour (Marion Cotillard). They reconnect in London, where their relationship rekindles and is tested by the government.
Allied is much better than I expected it to be. I was expecting a drag of a film, in that World War II setting. I ended up pleasantly surprised. Robert Zemeckis directs a thrilling and captivating love story. Obviously since it’s a Zemeckis film, it looks gorgeous. There’s a love scene in the desert that’s just breathtaking.
The performances are world class. Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard bring their A game. You buy their blossoming love, and fear for losing each other. Pitt has always done well in this setting. World War II has served him well in his career. This movie could get the both of them awards buzz.
Allied is a great love story, along with a game of clue at times. It’s hard to assemble a better team for a film like that.
