Well last week the Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2 trailer was released. I have to say that I was a fan of how this teaser was constructed. It’s more of a bunch of shots to get you excited to be in this world, amongst these characters again. It worked on that level, because now I can’t wait to see this.
We see a few bad ass shots of Gamora (Zoe Saldana) flying through the air, wielding two knives of some sort. You gotta love her. It’s great to see a powerful female character that isn’t of this world, being so killer.
Then we get to see Star-lord (Chris Pratt) on a scavenging trip it seems. He’s standing amongst some sort of wreckage, looking like a bad dude, duel wielding his blasters. Pratt absolutely owns this role. I can’t picture anyone else as Star-lord.
It was good to see that Yondu (Michael Rooker) has appeared to join the team. That’s a welcome addition. He and Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper) are walking on some type of bridge together There’s not much there on that front other than to say it’s good to see Rocket. After the title comes up he shoots through a wall and we see mini Groot (Vin Diesel) on his shoulder. Cute shot to end it off.
The only dialogue we have in the trailer is from Drax (Dave Bautista) and Star-Lord on the ship. Drax tells Quill that he needs someone pathetic like him, and offers a hug. Bautista’s performance had to be one of the most pleasant surprises for me. I know him from the wrestling realm, so I know what he’s capable of on the charisma side. He really brought the humorous touch in the original. His dry delivery could’ve come across as bad acting, but it was received the way it was supposed to be. As a hilarious performance from a big physical specimen.
