“Jack Reacher: Never Go Back”-Review:

Jack Reacher (Tom Cruise) tries to uncover a government conspiracy in order to clear his name. While on the run Reacher discovers someone from his past that can shake the foundation of his life.

I was a big fan of the first Jack Reacher. Peeling back the mystery of that story, with the great performances made that movie a fun ride. Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, hits more of those same notes for me. It’s a bit of a step down from its predecessor, but a really enjoyable flick nonetheless.

Obviously I can’t say anything about the great Tom Cruise that hasn’t been said. He is THE movie star of my time. One of the last actors that you can put on the poster and move tickets. Cruise is great in this movie. He plays that mysterious, rogue, hardened, and gritty a bad ass better than anyone. This character needs all of those traits to be believable.

The supporting cast is solid as well. Colby Smulders plays Major Turner. After wrongful convicted, she must prove her innocent with the help of Reacher. Smulders is particularly good in the film. She’s believable when she’s kicking ass. I really enjoyed her work here.

There’s one really glaring problem with the film, and that’s the writing. Not the flow of the story. At two hours it flew by for me. It was the dialogue. Some of it is so clunky and cheesy. I couldn’t help but laugh at some points. The story is a bit predictable but what do you want out of a Tom Cruise action flick?

All in all Tom Cruise does his best to bring some legitimacy to a clunky, cheesy script. The action scenes are really well coordinated for the most part. The best being a 4 on 1 fight in an abandoned warehouse. If you’ve already seen The Accountant and you want to watch another fun action flick go see this. If you haven’t seen The Accountant and you have to choose, choose that film. There just isn’t much here other than Tom Cruise doing his thing.
