“Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot”- Review:

Tina Fey stars as Kim Barker, a journalist recounting her wartime coverage in Afghanistan. Margot Robbie, Martin Freeman, and Alfred Molina also star.

We all know about Tina Fey’s comedic chops. She’s a powerhouse. I don’t think there is a woman funnier in Hollywood right now. I’m curious to see the dynamic between her and Margot Robbie. She’s never been cast with a comedic actress in the lead. Will she be able to hang with Tina Fey?

Well this movie wasn’t what I thought it was going to be. It’s listed as a comedy/war film. If we were going to put a percentage on it it’d be 95% war. The jokes didn’t hit hard, and the war aspect wasn’t really much either. Not at all really. That’s no fault of Tina Fey or Margot Robbie. They just didn’t have much to work with comedy wise.

The chemistry between Martin Freeman and Fey is great. The relationship comes about organically. You feel it build in a natural way as the movie goes on, but that’s really all you have here.

Don’t go into this film expecting a comedy. It’s a movie with some war correspondence, a love story, and a little bit of humor. It doesn’t feel like it reached its whole world view. They literally went to get stories, came back and partied and drank. That’s literally it.
