Jackson Healy (Russell Crowe) and Holland March (Ryan Gosling) reluctantly team up to investigate the disappearance of a porn star. Shane Black writes and directs this throw back buddy cop movie.
These two have chemistry like no one you’ve ever seen together. When Jackson and Holland aren’t trying to crack this case, they spend time a lot of time together and they are hilarious. The juxtaposition of their two characters makes this movie as much fun as it is.
Shane Black’s direction is stellar here as well. A true throwback to Los Angeles in the 70’s down to the most minuscule of details. The script he penned was enthralling as well, the case takes all kinds of twists and turns that you never see coming. I was hooked from the opening scene.
Angourie Rice plays Holly March, Holland’s daughter. She is going to be a superstar, holding her own in every scene with two world class actors will make you. Shane Black handles her character not as dead weight to the two leads, but as a third member of the team, while keeping her vulnerability.
The Nice Guys was one of the best movies of the year so far, great action, an enthralling story, and great direction from Shane Black. You must see this immediately.
