“Now You See Me 2”- Review:

The Four Horsemen have resurfaced and are forcibly recruited by a tech mastermind to execute a massive heist.

Is Now You See Me 2 better than the original. No, but there are some elements of what made its predecessor so fun in here. Director Jon M. Chu directs the magics scenes brilliantly. The card scene from the trailers is so over the top and crazy that you can’t take your eyes off it. The “final act” but towards the end is mind blowing as well.

Performances are solid. Jesse Eisenberg, Dave Franco, Lizzy Caplin, and Woody Harrelson all have great chemistry and their banter with each other is very funny. That’s what makes this film so fun along with the magic, their playful, family like bond is infectious.

Some negatives include Woody Harrelson’s character having an identical twin, which was completely useless. The portrayal did nothin for the story and the character was just there to take up space.

Also there’s a problem with the script. All characters other than Dylan Rhodes (Mark Ruffalo) stay stagnant. There’s no development or advancement for them, we’re going from crazy magic trick to another one and another one.

I had fun watching this sequel. The magic is fun, and the performances are good. The addition of Daniel Radcliffe was a welcome one, but he isn’t in it much. I can recommend this as a matinee watch, you can have a good time with it.

  1. I can’t wait to watch this movie. I loved the first one so I hope this will be interesting too, because there are some movies out there that I wish they never should have done part two of it.

  2. I may be the only person who actually thought the sequel was BETTER than the original. It’s good fun, just like you said. I really, really liked NYSM2. Enjoyed reading your review! –Louisa
