This marks the end of a great franchise. Katniss Everdeen and District 13 finally take those final steps into conquering President Snow. What can you say about this franchise? It’s been more than epic. All three previous films have been great. I’ve been left on the edge of my seat, waiting for what the next one will bring since its started. Will Part Two be the epic conclusion we are all expecting? Will we be let down by the grand finale?
A GRAND finale indeed. Director Francis Lawerance stayed very true to the source material and gave fans of the books and the movies a fitting end to this franchise. He shoots the actions sequences beautifully, you can follow everything, and you feel like you’re right in the middle of it all. The more quiet, dialogue driven scenes are just as powerful. There’s a quiet tension there, and you always know what’s at stake.
The acting is brilliant as usual. Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss will go down as one of the best characters in cinematic history. She doesn’t disappoint in this movie nor has she in the others. Hemsworth as Gale and Hutcherson as Peeta are better in this film than the others. Their characters have so many layers and it’s great to see it all pulled back in this final installment.
Supporting cast is stellar as well. Donald Suttherland and Juliane Moore as Snow and Coin are just superb. Snow is an easy character to hate, and you feel that same hatred towards him here. He’s always one step ahead of Katniss and you’re just always waiting for her to finally get the upper hand. Moore portrays Coin as more of a mysterious character. You never know what she really is about. Is she all about getting the power for herself? You find out the hard way.
Is this the best film in this franchise? It’s close. All the action makes it a fun watch, but the quiet moments help put a bow on this series so neatly that you have to applaud the efforts from everyone involved. The finality of it all puts this movie at the top of the list for me.
